Careful - you have just deactivated, not deleted your FB account!!

To truly jack out of the matrix and live in the real world, see:

(read the long version on this page - if you log back into Facebook it cancels your delete request!)

HOW TO DELETE (short version)

Go here:
http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account

Click "Submit" and follow the instructions.

If you are the sort of socially sensitive person who gets upset by strangers on forums, Facebook will destroy you. I speak from experience.
Jack out, go out and talk face to face with a human being instead! Or interact nicely with an ancient site!

Yes I de-activated myself originally thinking I'd rid myself of the loons but every other email I then got was from FB trying to tempt me back...like a obsessive religion it was!

Pretty sure that's what I said RE "how to delete your account". Dunno what you mean about the loons, S! :D

The only people able to see your account are those who you allow! I'm not used to sticking up for FB but that's the idea of "Friends" - add them if you know them, reject them if you don't! :) Or delete them if you accept them then change your mind...

The only problem I had was some lunatic from [insert location-based megalithic blog name here] pretending to be someone I know and commenting on photos of my very young son. That was why I removed myself initially. Otherwise, it really is just people I know and like.

The marketing is an interesting aspect of FB though - removing someone from your "Friends" list is known as "de-friending", which soulds rather terminal to me. People take it REALLY personally! I couldn't give a monkeys, and certainly don't see it as a reflection of my real world relationships with people. A bit of perspective is what's required with these things.

Like the obsessive religion it IS! ;-D
