The Daily Mail was unusually sensitive in it's reporting....I dare say their less liberal readers will see it as an affront to their heritage.....however it does seem to show that far from being ostracised, gay men were treated with a degree of respect which is lacking in today's society.

The evidence is a bit thin though isn't it - the report ends up saying "Archaeologists also found an earlier case of a female warrior buried as a man". So there's equal reason to suggest that was a lesbian....

He was probably a cataleptic who turned over after they'd laid him to rest thinking he'd died! :D

The book "Prehistory of Sex" talks at length about transexuals and cross dressing in prehistory. It cites modern anthropological parallels including old women treated as men and men choosing to live as women within the tribe.
