By the way; that's not to imply that i believe ancient monuments should be a free for all so long as no permanent damage is caused (think of the advertising / sponsorship possibilities... ugh, actually let's not).

But i just think it's hard to justify genuine outrage at a one-off stunt like that, when i was applauding so similar an action not very long ago.

But it was VERY, VERY GOOD when Maggie's head was lopped off. :-)

I was getting at the same thing in my posting above. I don't think I can object to the use of something in this manner, but I can object to the cause in which it is undertaken.

However, I do object to this one, not because it's sacred - because it's NOT! - but because it's old and part of our heritage. Winston & Maggie are part of our history and I reckon Maggie might well get the sort of send off Winston got when she snuffs it. Shit, that's a horrible thought.

Yin&Yang tho'. Half the country mourning the other half dance. No net effect - unlike Maggie's reign of terror.

Totally agree - my initial reaction (as seen in my post above!) after reading the article was outrage. Now on reflection - it's definitely a hypocritical stance to be taking and basically is a reflection of my contempt for their cause and not necessarily this action - which doesn't amount to much really. They're still a set of bastards though...
