Yup, position and height are critical.
Absolutely. It's hardly a matter of dispute that it's position is all about location, location, location and I can't see much reason to doubt that it's height was all about view, view, view: It's a bit of a stretch to think that they picked a random height that just enabled them to see over Waden to both Avebury and The Ridgeway. If they didn't care about that they'd have saved themselves a few hundred thousand basketfuls and built it 4 feet lower!

Yes I doubt there was anything remotely random about it considering it took 100 years to build albeit in stages. For me it is important that it at least matched the height of the WKLB because of my statement earlier!

I think it was made by aliens to be seen from space.

Not really. I've just not had a lot of sleep. Weeee! ;)

Speculation is fun so here’s another one:

The Obelisk was obviously an important feature of the Avebury Henge, and the fact that Silbury can be seen from that point (and vice-versa) and not from (many?) other points within the Henge, would suggest there was an intentional alignment between the two.

Sorry, oci, seem to have subverted your thread in the grand TMA tradition :-)
