This is getting too predictable, sorry. Well they may have backed off, for the moment, re. the Forests, but now it seems they're after a smaller prize - our allotments. We've had them and been using them since Saxon times. Very soon, the ability for many people to enjoy growing their own produce, and therefore helping the environment etc, will be gone... IF they get their way.
The Green Tories..... A contradiction in terms is an understatement, and you can't overstate the insulting contempt of this Government.

The Tories are arseholes, aren't they? Still. As long as the allotments don't have any megaliths in them, maybe U-Know can deal with 'em! ;)

I love the way that article says:-
selling off allotment land for social housing or even for profit to major companies.

There's nothing 'or even' about it. Major companies run by their mates will be the ones that profit....or is that just the cynic in me coming out!! :D

Yes heard that on the news this morning and thought the same TSC.

Although allotments don’t benefit the majority of us it’s a facet of our society that’s admired by many countries and should be protected. I’d like to see some changes though. Restrictions on what you can and cannot do on allotments need to be looked at if they’re going to survive. I had a lawn on part of mine, which was allowed and where I also grew flowers - great if you have young children but no garden of your own. Some local authorities allow beekeeping some don’t. Most allow you to keep rabbits but not hens.

Always thought one way to encourage a wider interest in allotments would be to allow allotment holders to sell their produce directly from their allotment if they wanted to – maybe that is allowed by some authorities but it isn’t by the one here.
