I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 (a few years old). It has a decent wide angle, as well as 10x optical zoom. Fits nicely into pocket too. I don't know what half of the features do though!

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZxx range of cameras are very good; they have Leica lenses, wide angle and decent zoom ranges.

The TZ10 is £230:

TZ7 £180:

Or you could look at the Casio Exilim EX-H5 at £139:

As usual, you have to decide on how much you want to spend.

The Canon "G" series Powershots are probably the best compacts, they have full controls, a viewfinder, and very good noise levels, but are on the large side. If you can put up with a little dumbing down we've seen very good results from the Canon S90 which is very pocketable, no viewfinder though, :O(
