A holdover from old scots belief that you cant own the land - hence you had Queen Elizabeth of England and Mary Queen of Scots - even our monarchs ruled the people, not the land.

Hrmmm.... wonder if it would piss off Donald Trump if me and some friends dressed like teuchtars and exercised our rights to roam over "his" land...

If people don't like us visiting sites on their land, they should move somewhere without anything, there's plenty of them. A few beers and a smoke while singing autogeddon blues and i couldn't give a shit who says its their land , i say try taking it from me, it'll just fall through your fingers, the viking way is you can own up and down but not outwards. ps i have had arguments but have always still gone where i'm going, and haven't been shot yet (touch wood).

I recall it was also a belief deeply held by the indigenous peoples of North America.

You probably do have the right to walk across Donal Trump's golf course; a recent Ramblers walk along the Mid Wilts Way took us straight across the fairway of a golf course ... the golfers had to stop playing and let us pass. They didn't really seem to mind though some of them looked faintly amused.

we do!
