Depends on the farmyard, obviously.... use your common sense. If there's a chance you'd be blocking any movement you'd deserve a good scrape down the side. Just treat the situation as if you was the farmer... do as you would be done by and all that. Failing that a lot of wasted trips are on the cards since I've found over the years people frequently aren't at home.
