I'm not sure they are in the same ball park, else every question EVER could be compared to something worse. A man in court for drink driving could just say "hey, I'm not drilling for oil and causing ecological disasters am I?" and everyone would go "ah, good point..."

What dont you understand? You compared two TOTALY UNRELATED things. Disrespecting ancient monuments and drilling for oil. SO I also compared two totally unrelated things; Drink driving and drilling for oil. YES drilling for oil is worse than pissing on some stones. But its also worse than lots and lots of things and if something "being worse" makes for a good argument then people would use that argument all the time.
