Woad of course colours up beautifully with urine so I've read though I have never tried it, so given the fact that woad colouring was used in the iron age, the use of urine must have had a long history - partly as a mordant and partly when wool is oxidised in the air to turn from green to blue. How they made it into a paste never quite worked that out.....
