are you saying it's all our fault?
I can't speak for Maggie and Keith (Megalithics) but I think the answer to your question has to be yes and no. My interest in stone circles, long barrows and dolmens first started at Avebury, later expanded by the inspiring posts made by some of the people on TMA and elsewhere. My affection for Avebury is now tempered by my desire to avoid the ever increasing crowds who visit, especially at weekends, so I tend to head off instead into the 'Avebury landscape' which is always peaceful. Some of my most enjoyable experiences at ancient sites have been accompanied by a sense of solitude and remoteness. King's Quoit on the cliffside at Manorbier in the October rain last year is one example - which is why I included it in my top three, ahead of Avebury.
