But would I want to know? I think most of the appeal is not knowing. They are mysterious and beautiful and they can mean whatever we want them to mean and thats part of the attraction for me.

Although I've had a go at deciphering what the Avebury Complex is myself and put it into print Faerygirl I would nevertheless love to know the real truth. For something that was SO important in Neolithic times - judged by the sheer effort and time that went into constructing it, I am still a little surprised that we don't actually all know more than we do today. Maybe it's because the time hasn't been spent on it like it should that we still know little more than we did 100 years ago with regard to what is actually represents. Without a shadow of a doubt it was hugely significant to our Neolithic ancestors. Maybe we are trying too hard to understand it and leaving too much to the archo's instead of looking at it in a much simplified way more in keeping with the people of its time and the beliefs around at that time like I decided to do after donkeys years of research. The big problem I found with the Complex was that there is almost too much there that it became confusing. Stripping away some of it and just leaving certain things brought it all home to me eventually....so I believe. But as I say, I would love to know the full story!
