I lived in a farmhouse on the banks of lake Windemere like that. Running water was the damp on the walls though.

Thanks for those excellent links Branwen; I would love to own a couple of those books. Just at the moment I am particularly drawn to the first one as am heading down to west Cornwall next weekend. Would like to at least see the Madron and Sancreed Wells.
