I bought a book when i visited it called "Rathcroghan and Carnfree" by Michael Herity and he lists it as a ring barrow.
So that is the reason it is down as a ring barrow. I suppose if it isnt a ring-barrow what is it?

Thanks for that.I have Heritys booklet as well, Waddell has a new publication out on the complex and this might throw some further light on it.

I have a hunch it could be a palimpest of Bronze and Iron Age monuments.
