At the beginning of Tam O Shanter by Rabbie Burns he mentions one, (ah schooldays and reciting this poem) :

"Of brownyis and bogillis full is this buke"

So there was obviously one in Ayrshire.

Bodach is another word meaning much the same thing. Is Paulus's image a boggart? I'm sure there's lots of naughty little people in Huntly, they are real bogeymen. And does this mean the River Bogie is full of water spirits, I wonder!

The ones in the water are the Merrows {At least in Ireland}, that i've read of.

I think some Creepy Salamanders have figured into legends too.
