I forgot to mention. Some blocks of soil were removed intact. X-rays show that there are several pieces in situ. The literature states that it is hoped this may reveal how the hoard was buried when excavated in the laboratory.
It would be good to see the data points of the pieces located on the site, but I don't think a find like this should be left in the ground, as I cannot see the burial as anything complicated, which in any case modern techniques can easily suss out before, and during the excavation.
