I've just had a note pushed through my letterbox, warning me that some maintenance work will be commencing soon, to help preserve the site of an ancient monument just above where I live on Castle Hill in All Stretton.

Whilst I have been aware of this site for years - and have walked past the place on numerous occasions, I don't really know anything about its age or origins. Other web searches, over the years, haven't really revealed anything, either. When the work team from the National Trust descends on the area I will, of course, try some interrogating... but thought I might just post a general query here, in case anyone can throw a few morsels of historic information this way.
