That would be an excellent idea but surely would involve half a dozen volumes, in the same way that you can get Lord of the Rings in a 6 volume set (or used to be able to).

That's true, but it might work if there was a small laminated version that had only the gazetteer, without the essays. Not that I decry the essays, I still like to reread them occasionally. But they don't you help find rocks very much.

Alternatively (sorry, I know this is just a pipe dream), it could be split regionally - each colour-coded bit from the original as a different book. That'd be just great!
