I am no expert but is it possible for a meteor of certain shape and size, to hit the atmosphere at such an angle that it would bounce off like a pebble on a pond?
If so, at certain angles this could look like the sudden change in direction as is often reported
Interesting idea scubi. The three lights we saw from West Kennet, back in the mid 60s, were moving slowly and in a line. The one in the centre then shot off away from us. The one on the right made an instant change in the opposite direction and was gone in a second, while the one on the left continued at the same speed and in the same direction.If so, at certain angles this could look like the sudden change in direction as is often reported
Thing that stunned us was the one on the right that went in the opposite direction. Imagine standing on a railway platform watching a train approach - one instant it's coming towards you, next it's going back down the line!
