This site is the best megalithic site bar none, fact, but the moderators are undermining that fact by being too harsh with their moderation.
How many valuable contributors have been banned over the last couple of years for not towing the party line and questioning posts.
It seems theirs a clique here now and any subject matter they don't agree with results in a ban for the original poster, what happened to questioning everything, that is Julians ethos is it not and you are using his brand.

I won't go into detail about individual cases, there is a long list but i will use the case of PeteG's banning as an example.
I accept no ones knowledge is a base for them to say what they like but questioning posts made stating non truths and questioning such is no reason for a ban.
No one has the knowledge that bloke has about the Avebury area but he was banned at the expense of one of the ed's friends for questioning posts made full of none truths and that's not having a dig at the poster in question, we all know what i mean.
i'm a fair bloke, most of the posters here are but this is supposed to be a knowledge sharing database, well that's why it was set up isn't it but it seems that's changed during the last year, i'm happy to contribute as sharing our knowledge is the reason for us all being here but it's all getting a little political for me now as some of you will have noticed, it really stinks and i'm loathe to carry on under this cloud of nepotism.
Many of you know where i'm coming from though i doubt i'll get any positive replies stating so as the result will probably be a ban but i thank those that have e-mailed me and promised to re post this if it's deleted from the bottom of my heart, i can see a day when there's just a few of you huddled in a corner talking about the old times and what a great site this was and your conquests if the cancer isn't cut out soon.
I really despair that it's come to this i honestly do and i hope there is a change of wind here before the site is flushed down the shitter.
When posts are made concerning Avebury i know what i'm talking about, i run arguably the largest, most knowledgeable web forum concerning the Avebury whs on the net but it's aim is discovery, knowledge and facts pertaining to the individual site within the whs and having no "religious" motives whatsoever which i think is the biggest factor in all this in fighting.
Maybe that's and end to my tenure here too but so be it if that's the case.
Regards, Geoff.

Just read this and it moved me deeply.
I have the privilege of being a member of the Avebury forum mentioned in Megadread's post where I have been completely accepted for just being someone genuinely interested in all things pertaining to the Avebury WHS. Since becoming a member I have gained so much knowledge from many people but it is Pete Glastonbury who has been willing to take people around and actually show them the hidden archaeology of the area. All he expects in return is the courtesy of a 'thank you' and perhaps a small contribution to petrol money.
Geoff/Megadread is our administrator; he is completely fair and has that sometimes elusive quality 'integrity'. Mistakes have been made in the past; we have learned from them and moved on. Vindictiveness is not on our agenda.
I'm proud of you Geoff ... you are just one good honest bloke with no pretensions.

Here's to the light of knowledge, shared generously ...

TMA Eds do not want to ban anyone. But if a contributor, no matter how much expertise he or she may have, is rude, vindictive, bullying, insulting or persistently alienates other contributors, then we have no choice but to ban them.

We are all entitled to our opinions. And you, Geoff, will certainly not be banned for stating yours, as you have done so in a reasonable and calm fashion.

Our rules are very clear. If you don’t know them, read them carefully http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/submission_guidelines/ And if you don’t like them, don’t take part. TMA Eds simply apply the rules as established by Mr Cope.

There's a long list, megadread? Do you think there is really? I know various people have stopped posting, but isn't it usually as a result of some big long argumentative thread, and they've decided to walk of their own accord because they're fed up of the bickering? Or they've got a new peculiar interest (geocaching or somesuch) and have moved on?

i dunno. It's true, I am sad and I have been on here for longer than is probably healthy, but I don't remember that many people actually getting banned. Anyway this isn't supposed to be argumentative, just disputing the numbers. I'll get back to my old books.

While I agree with the above sentiments completely, there is also this......

As a former member of the Trust, who worked hard to make a certain landscape around a certain Stone Circle more accessible and enlightening to people, I found this particularly insulting, and is a reason I don't feel particularly welcome here or contribute much. I'd say there can appear to be a clique.....
