I'm kinda new to running around in the fields but I have a problem with cattle! On numerous occasions I have been chased away from site but cattle...much to the amusement of onlookers. Anybody have any tips on how to handle cattle? Is there something that could be making them chase me and not the people with me?
Personally I never go into a field with cattle or any kind of animals unless absolutely necessary. It really is best to steer clear of them. I wont go into stories about people being killed or badly injured by animals but it can happen and really isnt worth the risk.

Just go around by another route.

I was amazed that you got out of that field quicker than me at Lough Gur when the bull stood up :-)

Further to previous comments regarding our bovine friends, I think having a 'Plan B' for when the beasties call your bluff is the golden rule. RSCs are particularly handy in this respect, having taken refuge on a number of recumbents in my time. Drewbhoy will probably have a fit at this sacrilege!!

Mind you, fallen orthostats do just as well, as long as they are in the 'large' category, as evidenced by my 12 Apostles experience:

I've found in these instances that the animals seem to want to reclaim their authority over the field and are quite happy to let you off the hook when this has been made clear......
