Gosh, I came over as quite restrained really. They cut out all the stuff I said attacking that silly historian's blathering about the 'tradition' argument: "It was once a fine old British tradition to bait bears and burn witches, but times change... blah blah blah".

Anyway this entire thread is waaaaay off topic (sorry Eds!) so now we must get back to the stones :-)

Good stuff Jane, that's exactly what I thought. Also couldn't help thinking there was a parallel there with the shenanigans at Parliament - people there talking and operating in some kind of meaningless petrified tradition (just because it is tradition) while Joe Public has to get to work each day and function in the real world!

Pha! Off with their wigs and down with their tollgates that's what I say!

I saw you on the iplayer - I don't think they made you look as mad as the chap who was for it (well it's too much trouble to change, and anyway some germans liked it), they just (obviously) cut you off and made you look a bit impatient! but otherwise you seemed very dignified. hurrah!
