Yes. £20.9 billion to generate 5% of UK's power needs whereas that spent on better insulation for every house (circa £1,000 each house) ought to save a lot more than 5% I'd have thought.

The situation may be so dire as to be pointless - like rearranging ornaments on the mantelshelf when an earthquake is expected. But home insulation also reduces fuel bills considerably - no mean feat when huge numbers live in fuel poverty. It's funny how the news is full of this stuff and that so little is actually done. I was impressed by film of lemmings, years ago, but now understand the creatures had been placed on a spinning turntable which chucked them off. The news from the cutting edge of science is pretty much that the climatic tipping point has been passed. The situation may be likened to the Titanic disaster. Strike up the band!
