John North

There is an obituary to the author John North who wrote"Stonehenge: Neolithic Man and the Cosmos " published in 1996. The Independent obituary links is here..... http://tinyurl.com/5ub67x Though there is also one in the Guardian.

In actual fact his book covered a much larger area than Stonehenge, its a difficult read though; to quote from the blurb ....

"Mysterious Stonehenge has been a magnet for theorists of every stripe for centuries. This new interpretation, by a historian of science argues that it was both an astronomical observatory and a map of the heavens. Actually, North's net is spread much wider than the title suggests. He begins with a discussion of the structure and orientation of long barrows"

Hi Moss , I thought he was a great writer ,comes across as a good bloke as well , judging by saturdays guardian obit . I don't accept a lot of the sighting stars across barrows etc , but that's just my view (pun intended ) . The Holbein book was even better than the astro stuff for me .
