Hi

I was reading 'The Devil Hunter' (1978) recently, which recounts several
tales from the career of a Reverand Donald Omand, exorcist. One of the
photographs shows him performing an exorcism standing before what looks like a roughly sperical stone balanced upon a standing stone. The accompanying text says:-

"In Christ's name Dr Omand overcomes the malevolence in a prehistoric stone which had been desecrated through removal from it's original site. The exorcism took place on 25 June 1977 at a well-known Yorkshire castle."

I've searched through all the chapters and can't seem to find any mention of the exorcism or the location of either the stone's origin or the castle
where it ended up. Does anyone know which castle it was? Is it still there? Where was the stone removed from?

Any info gratefully received!

Cheers
Dave

I don't know about the stone I'm afraid. But I do notice that the Rev exorcised a Black Dog somewhere and even had a go at the Loch Ness Monster. Poor things. I feel like phoning the RSPCA, it just isn't on.

Hiya David,

There appears to be a Rev by that name:

But he seems to have died long before the 1970's.

Castle can also be a bit of a generic word, I think of big stone medieval castles, when sometimes they can just be fortified houses.

North Yorkshire's most finest?:

As to where the stone was removed from, maybe some ideas from those TMA'ers that know that area well.

Maybe tis just folk lore?
