Pottery and flint implements take a huge amount of Human effort. To find them is important..

A grain of cereal means very little. unless it's understood how it became there.

If I find a pebble in my garden, does it mean that there was a beach there thousands of years ago.. ?

you make a good point. pottery and flint were transported to sh by people. the grain may have come there by wind........ but, still grain was the only carbon artifact that they found. and this was a small dig compared to the entire site... surely there is much more grain there.

ie. if you found many pebbles in your yard, perhaps they were formed there by the action of water.
