Hi Moss
The capstone was not winched up but levered up. I've not met Cliff but know people who have and I've studied his work, Cliff knows how to use levers and fulcrums, as far as raising heavy stones into the air Cliff is without equal in my opinion, and his method of building Dolmons is I'm sure the method used by Neolithic man. Whether Cliff knows of my work and my method of transporting heavy stones overland with levers, this I don't know, but if he does I'm sure he would approve. During the 2005 Stonehengineers experiments we proved that stone-rowing works well with a 12 ton stone. We also proved that "given enough manpower" the same 12 ton stone can be moved a short distance quicker on rollers. I remain convinced that the shortcomings of the rollers method will be transparently apparant once we try again with stones in the 25 to 50 range.
