I would consider anyone who devoted his life to studying prehistoric monuments a maverick - sure, he wasn't undisciplined in the true sense of a maverick, but it is certainly viewed as 'unorthodox' - that is, not normal - to devote your life to stone circles in today's society.It's odd how the term has different values ,for many being considered a maverick might be be thought of as a racy and positive for others it's pejorative .
