Like a violin

Two and a bit years ago I posted

Estelle Morris plays our wonderful language like a violin.
She said about the Portable Antiquities Scheme -
"When we know how much money we have been allocated from the Treasury, I will do all that I can to ensure that the Scheme continues. I cannot say anything beyond those assurances. However, any change would not be for a lack of wonderment on my part for the scheme, those who run it or the museums."

If you rearrange all the letters it says "We might stop funding it at some point, but I'm wonderful"

Last week it emerged PAS was to have its funding frozen, its head office disbanded and to be subjected to a further ominous major review in the summer.

Estelle, together with the other minister who was full of wonderment for the scheme and those that run it, David Lammy (he of the "detectorists are unsung heritage heroes" remark), are now well out of it having moved on to pastures new.

The New Labour government has systematically dismantled the wildlife protection and conservation structures since it's been in government. The guys that look after obscure patches of earth and strange species are not effective campaigners, I guess. I never thought it possible that I would be able to praise the Conservative Party but their laws and financial support had put British wildlife research in front of the world - now it's a shambles worthy of an eastern European country. 'To hell in a handcart'. But my appointment with our county PAS officer is in January, so that particular object - a hammerstone that'd been used for dressing a carved stone - will be recorded. Estelle Morris? Waste of space ...
