Spookily enough I actually read that yesterday.
There are details of the Scottish pitchstone project here in bulletin No.37

I don't suppose you have a copy of the Williams Thorpe and Thorpe paper do you?

pure speculation
The Corriegills burn area is thought to be one main sources of pitchstone used for tools and is well within walking distance of the Brodick rock art site.
