As I have made widely known, as a surveyor I kept a protimeter issued by my employers in my car for tracing electrical cable in plaster walling. It lights up if certain metal is directly under it and it has a range of 0.25 inches. Everyone else who saw it got the joke but if you wish to say I was using it in earnest then fine. A reaction is one thing you won't get these days.
