I would think 40k would be in my definition of not too far.

The fact that they are of the same age/type is a tempting factor, I agree.

As you mention above, I would like to look at other factors. Things such as were the sites placed on the same sort of landscape type place? If so how many other similar locations were there near each site. If there were many then it makes the choice of site curious, if nothing else.

0.2 degrees over 40km is only 138m divergence. That's pretty good going.
