thought this might be of interest:

I'm actually almost tempted by it, can anyone help me think of an "angle"?

blimey I wouldn't know where to start with that! :-\

It mentions "Research proposals are invited from applicants who have an interest in undertaking a practice-based PhD to examine a question related to aspects of reductive thinking or haptic thought. "

Reductive thinking seems a bit of an odd one, as you'd imagine that arty stonecarver types would actually be more interested in more holistic ways of thinking about things??
And 'haptic thought' (well I had to look that one up I admit) is to do with the sense of touch. Hmmm you can squeeze something rockarty into that if you try. 'Site specific' sculptures are no doubt all the rage so ideas about how their sculptures will relate to the landscape might be an angle.. and that relates to rock art doesn't it.. people carving tactile things in the landscape.

er no actually I can't think of an angle either. But it sounds really interesting talking to sculptors about their work.
