Isolation can produce shamanic states, I would think. I live with a carved rock from some kind of ancient tomb. Because it's been indoors, and then buried, the carving is very 'fresh'. (There's a bit scabbed off the front where the recent JCB pulled from a silty riverbank). There's a Rock Art academic presence half a mile away - I offered to take it in a bogey pulled by an urchin - but they'll not look at it as the motifs are unknown. I've also just brought back a hammerstone that'd been buried a couple of metres from a carved boundary stone - point uppermost. The hammer is so heavy it is unimaginable using it. Enormous strength would be needed to use it for longer than about ten minutes. (No photographs). I'm probably going to ask the Rock Art expert to come and look at the stone - I doubt he will. Very important lesson about life and stuff. The experts treat it as though they would become 'infected' if they admit it. Sounds daft but ...
Gotta go ... Let me know if you gig in Newcastle - you can have an audience !
