I'm off to Santiago de Compestilla in September. Nice. We only have a few days and a couple of these will be spent going bog-eyed looking at Romanesque churches. One day will be for rock art hunting if I can find enough places to visit. The other option will be to 'nip' into Portugal and 'do' some tombs.

Any pointers on north Spanish rock art sites? I know there's loads out there, I just need to know where!

Something like this perhaps: http://www-gtarpa.usc.es/petro/galeria/img/bigRnoche2.jpg

and does anyone know where Castro de Baroña, Porto do Son is? - http://www-gtarpa.usc.es/petro/galeria/img/bigRcastrodebarona.jpg

Phwoar! You lucky bastard! I wish I could help you in your search, but sadly...

If you can get access to , see url below , then tha tmay help ,otherwise it might mean getting hold of Portugese books by Costas Goberna e.g. Arte Rupestre Prehistorico de Galicia in De Petroglyphis Gallaeciae , sounds like it's close . Ramon Fabregas Valcarce did a Phd at Reading a few years ago on the subject ,if you could get hold of him tha twould be good , sorry no contact info . Hopefully something will be forthcoming before September . http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0043-8243(199402)25%3A3%3C374%3ARARALA%3E2.0.CO%3B2-9

Hi Mr fourwinds

This is unrelated to the thread and has probably been explained on the forums before so forgive me - I've been missing for a while, but where have all your contributions gone? You were the top contributor for a while, how come they're no longer here?

Excellent! You fortunate FW that you are.

I've got nowt immediately useful, but I know off hand that you're in a good position for the Pontevedra stuff. I suspect getting accurate directions/gps will involve getting someone to translate from Spanish, as apart from Richard Bradley, it seems no-one has written about them in English.

Bring us back lots of lovely pics, (and gps refs) especially of that Monte Teton monster.

I'm now off to go gnaw out my liver in envy ;)
