Paulus, I am sorry if it came over that way (and that I've not been so active on TMA recently, didnt know anyone was keeping tabs).

Paulus appears to disagree with my own view that TMA is not the ideal medium for "metal detectorists" to come over from their own forums to dismiss the significance of the HA figures and use their customary tactics against those who raise such questions. If the tone of the posts by the three "metal detectorists" in this thread does not disturb you (Paulus singled me out but did not mention them), then by all means let him welcome other "detectorists" to join in.

"...then by all means let him welcome other "detectorists" to join in."

Oh gawd no, no more arguing about this stuff please. I actually gave up a while ago - for the practical reason that it's pointless and the personal reason its boring. Arrogant or not, I too hope they'll discuss it elsewhere - on their many fora for instance, from which you and I and HA members have been excluded. (Why? "For mis-behaviour!" Yeah, right, all of us.)

Here's the truth of it, Cymap and Kevmar (and I don't really care what convoluted denials or pseudo offence it prompts) - the counter DOES paint an appropriate broad picture. I know that's the case as I was witness to the painstaking work that went into it, and the entirely honest way it was done. It draws on multiple sources and they ALL back it up.

Your hobby IS erosive, HAS removed many millions of artefacts from the record and CAN'T go on like it is.

(What on earth are you saying when you say the counter is flawed - that your hobby DOESN'T denude the fields?!?!)

Hi Paul -

Cheers. But it was this which did it for me: "don't moan about "feeling insulted", get on with making a case. But do it somewhere else please."

If TMA is a place where ANTI-metal-detector issues can be brought up, then they have every right to put their case to defend themselves. If you disagree with such a right, equally, keep metal-detector issues off this forum. The logic in what you've just said, taken further, says, "I can say what I want about you here, but you've no right of redress." I think someone elsewhere called it right: "control freak" mentality.

You might be surprised to find, therefore, that I have issues against certain metal-detectorists misself, but find bad attitudes only breeds bad attitudes. (And I can be damn good at that one!)

All the best - Paul
