Well that is what is interesting isn't it - I mean the fact that the black horse meant food was available and the white horse that it was King George so there was nothing wrong with naming a pub the black horse until the 18th century, then suddenly it was a slur on the monarchy. There may well have been a furore when the rebuilt black horse on a new spot kept its name - just when coach travel was taking off and all.
