It does all seem rather vague. I would have though an accurate alignment would have been part of the report on each monument, but there you go. Look at the three plans of Coldrum I posted last weekend - all by trusted hands, all totally different alignment.

My Pathfinder shoes used to have a compass in the heel when I were a kid !

A short passage won't give as accurate an orienation as a longer one and the longer ones are not all straight , then factor in the the excavators interest or lack of and the fact that not all have been checked never mind excavated .
