It does look like it's got worn edges from use, not normal weathering or being in a river. That strange bifurcation on the one side... that's unusual.

Hope it turns out to be the real thing!

EDIT: It looks as if you could notch a stick or a bone into that groove on one side and sinew the thing together into a hammer.
