don't forget Castle Ring! the hillfort, known for gatherings in the last centuries, including:

* Wesley and the Methodists
*Various combinations of socialist and cycle clubs (both popular in the inter-war period)
*Terry Flynn and his Hollywood Nazi crew

I was born just around the corner, and my Grandad was the local councillor for that area ... it's literally my home turf!

possibly the reason there aren't any megaliths is that it was a private hunting estate, King John I think, and it might have been cleared. Someone has mentioned a possible stone around there to me, but I'll have to check

next time I'm at my Gran's I'll get some pix of Castle Ring ... it's always dark or raining or we're going to GrannieGibbons when we're there though ...

And theres the beautiful view of the powerstation cooling towers from the outer rampart. Got lost on 'The Chase' last time i was there. There are so many forestry tracks that i ended up in the middle of god knows where. If it wasn't for the fact that i stumbled onto a vast clearing of trees above the road, i think i'd still be a-wandering round there now. Be warned, the maps for the area aren't much good as far as the tracks go, well except for that big one running from Castle Ring.
