Heard today that Bath University had officially pulled out of its plans to build a campus on a site between Coate (home of the writer and poet Richard Jefferies) and the Downs; the site (from Coate Water) is incredibly beautiful and contains the remains of at least one stone circle. As the project would have also included a housing development and a business park these are now likely to be rejected when re-submitted in May. Though not on the scale of Thornborough it's a success non-the-less and a lot of credit for that success must go to Jean Saunders who lead the Save Coate Campaign.
Thats marvellous news, Bath University expansion into the Swindon area was not good especially into Coate Park. Think it wants to expand up on the main campus as well, know its made inroad into Bath itself with student accomodation and a new centre down by the river, perhaps the money has run out....
