Maybe this has been asked before but has anybody ever thought to or have built their own dolmen or quoit?.Ive often thought if i could source suitable pieces of granite to actually do this.May seem a bit strange but why not.Would be somewhere good for inspirational thoughts or simply to get away from the 'other half' for a while !! :)

Down here in Cornwall we used to build a lot of them...but that was over 4,000 years ago. Recently our own Cornish Archdrude, Ed Prynn built his own 'Angel's Runway' in his back garden. For photo of such item see...

I am sure there must be someone on this site who has visited Ed....I keep meaning to..

Here's another modern one.

In 2003 it was reported by the BBC that a Devon farmer called Gavin Dollard built a Bronze Age burial chamber on his land at Ivybridge in Devon. He plans to be laid to rest in the chamber.

Personally I think tis only possible if you have access to some huge stones and a JCB. : (

Wasn't there an episode of Time Team where they were investigating a BA or IA site which turned out to be fake. I thinkthe give away was that some of the standing stones could rocked back and forth and the a BA sword was found in a river...laying on top of some barbed wire!
I always facied putting some large standing stones in my garden. Perhaps I can have it so the sun rises over one on my birthday or something.
:o)

Remembered this memorial stone under Carn Meini, its near the modern bluestone brought down by helicopter from the top..If I remember right the stone was dedicated to someone called Ivor (he was Welsh anyway) buried in 1970, though looking at the picture, expect he was cremated first - not enough soil round those rocks to bury a mouse....
