I havn't worked out the margin of error in terms of metres , bearing in mind that problems like earth's curvature is taken into consideration and over some distrances of up to 650k the difference is less than a degree it's not bad .I'm not so sure that is that important as I not so sure the whole thing was necessarilly intentional and even if it was lt's very close .

I can't understand all this technical stuff. If you scaled it down to a straight line say a hundred yards long what measurement would the maximum error be?
