Anniversary Thanks

Bonjour

This week marks the first year anniversary of me stumbling upon this site. I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has conversed with me, answered my threads and helped this bilbob over the last 12 months.

I am still learning a lot and probably come across as helpless to far more learned fellows here, but I have also learned a lot about a subject that has become a passion. How did that happen? The places I have visited this year have really enriched me, and it may sound stupid but altered my lifestyle for the better. Before - a year ago if you'd told me I would drag myself out of bed on a wet miserable winter sunday morning, drive 80 miles to look at a long barrow, I'd have laughed at you!

I'm much more aware and appreciative of the countryside and how ancient history has shaped the environment around me - I owe that to this site I think. I'd always been fond of the fairytales but hadn't thought to investigate where they came from before I came here.

Despite what is written on other threads, everyone here has been nothing but welcoming, patient and helpful and I owe you all a debt of gratitude. I don't know what it is about TMA that sucks you in but I am very glad I'm here. From the people I've met and spoken to, to the name calling and squabbles, I'm well and truly sold!

Happy Solstice / Christmas / NY! I look forward to seeing you all here in 2007.

That's a really nice post JS.

Seasons Greetings to you and yours as well :-)

I know what you mean ,for many a year I wandered as lonely as a cloud with naught for company except J.Cs big orange book, then I found this place on a mates computer and just had to buy one of me own ,now I feel part of something and it's not so wierd to wander across fields and moors and whatnot.
Welcome to the bonkers brigade

Good on yer Jack and a happy solstice backatcha

Yay!

That's cheered me right up! Not that I wasn't cheered already, mind... :oD

Nice one, JS!

Well as its a grey, foggy, cold, miserable solstice day, and Jamie will not be able to see the winter sun at Stoney Littleton, its nice to read you message of cheer on this day, what you are experiencing is "serendipidity" and if you like words......

"Walpole formed the word on an old name for Sri Lanka, Serendip. He explained that this name was part of the title of "a silly fairy tale, called The Three Princes of Serendip: as their highnesses traveled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of...." found on the internet....

which obviously is a great source of serendipitious information ;)

Thanks for those generous words Jacksprat, I'd like to pass on the same sentiments but probably wouldn't make it sound right :)

Jack, now and again on here, someone pops up with with a posting that acts like a warm glow of spring sunshine that cuts right through the dark and dank and mist. Thanks for cheering me up and thanks for the perfect timing.
