Don't know if I'm on the right platform here, but it really, really annoys me that local councils just utterly neglect our little heroic monuments.
We have few in our town, commemorating varoius conquests (minor and not so), and just buildings that have on the lower level become pubs or shops, but still, if fully taken care of, memories of a (probably) not so glorious past, but still, past!
These liitle awesome artifacts are left crumbling, decaying, and in a state I would imagine would cost any local authority next to nothing to sort out.
I rue that me and my beloved are one of the few whom look around at the signposts of our litle town's past and sigh in awe at what it once was, and how those parts of our history are just utterly neglected.
Why do they get away with this?

This is the wrong forum for this type of discussion, since its dedicated to prehistoric sites.

however, the general issue, that of the neglect and often deliberate destruction of our heritage places is very much a topic of interest to many.

The fact is, the sort of government we as a people want, is a one that pays lipservice to "important issues" such as preservation of the environment, including heritage, while it allows as much of the same as possible to be destroyed, preferably without informing us of the loss.

That was we can all shout out loud that we need to do more to prevent the destruction of our planet, safe in the knowledge that there will be no impact on our own lifestyles.
