It's sort of strange that in less than five hundred years of Euro-inhabitation of this area (let alone the five thousand years + in the UK!) the origination of these sites are uncertain...

I went to the Ocmulgee mounds about 10 years ago and they were fantastic. If memory serves, they had reconstucted a smoke house and we could go inside one of the tombs. If you ever happen to be driving through Georgia, I would thoroughly recommend a trip!
