Whether you are 'tuned in' or not, empirical science has proved that there ARE energies running thru us, the planet, the solar system. Magnetic lines of force, electrical energy, and so on.I don't know whether the ancients put any value on them since I wasn't around then to ask, or if I was I don't remember.
I am no expert on any level but I know what I feel and what I believe.
If you're of an open mind you must conclude that it is possible we cannot detect all wavelengths of energy... even with our technology.
And human beings are by neccessity unable to sense all these wavelengths, as to do so would be quite confusing! Imagine if you could see Xrays, Radio waves, etc. We'd all be walking around in a thick soup of overlapping sensations.
