I was driving along the south side of Loch Tay last Sunday - or to be more precise my wife was driving and I was enjoying the scenery for a change. Single track road from Killin to Kenmore, and some entertaining fun with the usual caravan-towing idiots... However, somewhere between Fiddlers Bay and Ardtalnaig (I think) I spotted two standing stones, in fields between the road and the loch. I photographed both, thinking I could find out more about them on my return (we were in my wife's car, and I didn't have the usual array of maps, scribing implements, notebooks, binoculars, all the usual useful junk I carry...)

However, there's nothing marked on my Landranger map. Had a brief scan through Canmore (always a bit erratic at the best of times) and came up with zilch. BigSweetie, Tiompan - do you know anything about either of these? I have a couple of photos of both of them, and my wife remembers stopping the car both times so I could get out and lean over the fence to take the photos, so I know I didn't imagine them...

Hi Nick , I think I know one of the stones you mean . It has been there at least 18 months . Just past Lurglomond on the north side of the road , I have some pics and am pretty sure it was a recent bit of sculpture by the fermer.

Don't know the standing stones, but that's one of my favorite areas in the whole world. Hidden to the north of Loch Tay is Glen Lyon, 34 miles of pure bliss.

Also recommend the Falls Of Dochart Inn at Killen, great food and lovely people :-)

Hi Nick,

I did a similar thing back in April, took photos of the first one (coming from Kenmore) but not the second, and was sure they'd be on the map when I got home (although I couldn't remember seeing any reference to them anywhere before). I think one of them is between Ardtalnaig and Ardeonaig and the other is maybe around Tullochan, but like you I didn't have anything to make notes with.

Been meaning to go back there to get grid refs. Certainly didn't look modern from the road.

Cheers
Andy

The one I took pics of was at Achianich , I have a grid ref somewhere but certainly 21st C.
