On the 11th July 2010 there's a solar eclipse. One of those 'once in a lifetime' events. I know lots here went to Cornwall in 1999, and saw mostly clouds. Well, there won't be another Eclipse in England till 23rd September 2090, so if you want to see 'nature's greatest display' (not my words, though I can't think of any better1) in your lifetime, then some travelling's involved.
But this one in 2010 is a little strange, because the path of totallity is mostly over the ocean. You may see it late in the day in Chile or Argentina, but it will be at dusk. It's an evasive Eclipse. Not many will see it.
But one place you *will* see it - weather permitting of course - is a Easter Island.
And I bet there aren't many here who haven't thought about perhaps one day visiting Easter Island.
Well, 11th July 2010 seems like a good date to me!
It'll cost. But what a trip!
I'm saving. I've got four years. . I can think of not much else worth saving for than a trip to Easter Island to see a total solar Eclipse. Might cost two grand - as far as I know there's only one airline that goes there so it's a monopoly. Doubling current costs of short breaks to Easter, I'd work on two thousand.
But what a trip!
If you saved £9.61 a week, you'd have two grand by 11th July 2010.
Or you could spend it on cable telly . . ;-))))
C'mon, don't it sound tempting?
(And no, I don't work for any travel agents!).
Tempted? .. .just a little?
