Ring of Beara

close

Hi Guys.

Well, I have flights, car, accommodation and time off work all booked. Ring of Beara here I come! I just have one concern. Reading the fieldnotes, some of the sites seem like they might be a bit of a struggle to get to. I'm still recovering from breaking my ankle last year, and my mobility isn't yet back to normal. I can walk, but sudden slips and stumbles can be very painful, and I don't have full range of motion in my ankle. Will this be a problem? Just how difficult are these sites to get to? Marsh and bog seem to be a common theme......

Also, are there any sites I should visit that I might overlook? Most of the 'must sees' seem fairly obvious. Are there any sites further inland within easy striking distance that I shouldn't miss?

Thanks for any advice. :D

Have you tried using a walking pole? I have a dodgy knee and was surprised at how much pressure is taken off when you use a pole.

Also useful for checking depth of Irish peat bogs!!

Lissyvigeen but may be tricky to get to depending how the new bungalow in front of it is going.

You could nip around to the Ring of Kerry and see Staigue Fort and the nearby rock art Staigue Bridge

The Druids' Circle in Kenmare is easy to get to and quite amusing.
